A Gift for the Future

Diane Kilzen

Diane Kilzen could not have known what a big impact Monmouth Medical Center would have on her life, when she accompanied her mother to the hospital to seek treatment.  “I was working in NYC and decided, then and there, that I wanted to work at MMC because I was so impressed with my mother’s care, and I believed I could make a difference in someone’s life by working here.”  Diane’s gratitude to the hospital motivated her to not only change careers, but also recently to establish a Legacy Gift to Monmouth Medical Center in her mother’s memory.

Now retired, Diane was a member of Monmouth Medical Center’s team from 1997-2017, and found her home in 2002 in the Pathology Department.  She often went beyond her 9-5 responsibilities, chairing the hospital’s four annual blood drives (when they were based at MMC), and since 2007 has contributed to the success of each MMC Crystal Ball Gala.   “The people who work at MMC are very special and dedicated,” says Diane, who still remembers being in the intensive care unit during her mother’s month-long stay, watching the physicians and nurses as she experienced their care and compassion. “Many of the doctors and staff members have devoted their entire careers to the hospital, some for over 50 years, and in my opinion, this is a true testament to pride and professionalism.”

When asked about her legacy gift, Diane added, “I made this gift because when you believe in an institution you want it to succeed.  The single most important consideration in making this gift was to ensure that MMC continues to contribute to the community here – to be open, functioning and successful.”

“Diane is a wonderful, delightful, caring, compassionate lady whose gift shows her devotion to the place that took care of her mother as well as where she works each day,” says Tara Kelly, vice president of development for MMC Foundation. Kelly continued, “Diane has always recognized the vital role that philanthropy plays at Monmouth.  But what’s unique about Diane, is that she also has a visionary approach.”

Diane and the other visionary donors of the Cranmer Legacy Society have their names inscribed on a beautiful sculpture in the hospital’s main lobby. Their gifts will ensure that MMC continues providing a much-needed service to support health care needs in our community for generations to come.
